Wow, it really just seems like yesterday that I was nervously sitting in Barnes and Nobles with April and Matt discussing the possibility of me photographing their wedding. The two were married in October of 2007 and trusted me, a very new photographer at the time, to capture their day. I’m so thankful they took a chance with me, allowing me to be a part of their lives. They’ve been faithful followers of my work and Matt still has every single wedding photo saved on his iphone. They truly are two of the most kind and gentle people I’ve ever met, and with faith out of this world.
Matt and April knew they wanted to be parents and after the painful loss of their first baby Maddy, they prayerfully considered getting pregnant again. They became pregnant again with little Ellison, or Ellie as her friends and family call her, and shortly thereafter it was discovered that her little body was not developing as it should. Ellie made her courageous entrance into this world on May 25, 2011 at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and has been fighting for her life since.
I was honored to meet sweet Ellie yesterday and to take her photograph. Ellie’s future is uncertain, but the doctors say that she is a medical miracle for surviving as long as she has. She is one tough little girl. I left Cincinnati heavy hearted yesterday and deeply affected by Ellie’s story. I am hopeful. I am angry. I am incredibly saddened. Mostly though, I am moved by Ellie’s strength and the faith of her parents. I am in awe of the frailty of life and feel prompted to love the people in my life with further depth. I’m thankful for the impact and perspective this sweet, little baby and her family have given me. I’ll end this with a few words from Ellie’s daddy.
“We hope that Ellie’s life and her story will in some way touch hundreds, if not thousands of people. We pray that the Holy Spirit will work through Ellie’s life to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. We know with out a doubt that Ellie was given to us for a reason, besides to bring us incredible joy, happiness and life long memories from these short few months. We know that some day in the future our family will be together. We know that Eternal Life in Heaven with our girls is going to be a much longer period of time than our time here on earth. And, Heaven is going to be that much sweeter knowing that our family will be whole!”
Please meet the beautiful Ellison Kate.

- These pics are beautiful! I met Matt & April through my sister and brother-n-law George while my nephew was at CHMC. Their strength amazes me. I pray for Ellie everyday that the lord give her the strength to get better. Sometimes I don't understand why things like this happen to such wonderful people and beautiful innocent children, but I know sometimes GOD has other plans. My brother, who passed away at 20 years old flies with beautiful angel wings in heaven!! He is watching over all of the children, I just know it!! Matt and April, I saw you take care of Ellie at the hospital. I think you are doing a great job!! I know Ellie loves you all!! Your great parents!! Love you! I will miss you all!! I hope we can see each other again someday!August 23, 2011 - 8:28 pm

- First a word of introduction, we are the parents of Marla Berry. I don't know if you have heard OUR story with the birth of Marla. In 1966 (shhhh that's been a few years ago!) Marla stills looks really young. My husband was in the Army for seven years, Marla was born in Tacoma Washington at Madigan General Hospital. We were ready to bring her home when a team of doctor's came into the WARD yes, remember it has been a few years ago!Marla's doctor informed us they had found,"A knot in our baby's belly" our heart sank, to say the least. We were told the only way to find out what it was, they would have to do exploratory surgery .Marla was FIVE DAYS OLD.We were hundreds of miles away from long time friends and family. All we had to relay on was God and each other. I will try to end by just giving the outcome of the surgery. The doctors found she had a cyst on her kidney, and it was not functioning. The kidney was removed. She was in ICU three weeks with all the needles and tubes that your familiar with. It was touch and go for awhile, but through many tears, and prayers of many many churches, and individuals we were able to take her home at five weeks old. Praise be to God! And as your aware she was able to give us twin grand babies 21 years ago! I trust I haven't bored you to tears, but I have meant this note to be a "Message of HOPE" and also to let you know we are personnaly praying for you and the family. My husband pastors Hopewell Baptist Church in Corbin, KY. Our church has special prayer meeting on Thursday evening to pray for revival in the hearts of people, and for our nation, and for special needs and prayer request. We have been having this for 6 years, and our average attendance is 35-50 each week. We do have regular Wednesday night prayer meeting, therefore it takes some dedication and committment to come back the next night. We have witnessed many prayers answered and Little Ellie's name will be added to our Thursday night list of request, as well as the list in our weekly bulletin. Waiting to hear things are already changing fot the better. The photos are so touching, thank you for sharing and making folk aware to pray for you.
